A 33-year-old woman has been found dead inside a Sydney cafe, police said.

The woman’s body was discovered in the upstairs dining room of the Cafe Liza, a cafe in the Sydney suburb of Newtown, at about 4:30am (AEDT).

The woman was taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead, police confirmed.

She was a former employee of the cafe who was working as a manager, a police spokeswoman said.

The cafe’s owner, Sohail Ahmed, has been arrested and will appear in court on Wednesday.

Police are asking for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact Crime Stoppers.
